I'm fascinated at the fawning over Obama and his supposed hope for black people. I had to ask myself what has he done? He's come from veritable obscurity and catapulted to rock star status. However, besides making speeches that people like, what has he done? Can he back up what he says?
Well, people who know me know that I'm just not gonna jump on anyone's bandwagon, especially if it's not headed in the same direction as scripture. So I went and did a little digging on Mr. Obama's voting record. Below is what I found on just a few of the key issues that are of concern to many Christians:
The Proof Is In The Pudding
Abortion
Prohibiting the Funds in S 1200 from Being Used for Abortions - No Vote
Prohibiting Funds for Groups that Perform Abortions - No Vote
Prohibiting U.S. Assistance for Groups that Support Coercive Abortion - No Vote
Unintended Pregnancy Amendment - Yes
What this says to me is that he's for abortion when he has choose. For many Christians, this is the deal breaker. And when you see his pat response during the Rick Warren forum, you can see how it's a problem.
Immigration
Immigration Enforcement and Border Fence Amendment - No
Denying Legal Status for Immigrants Convicted of Certain Crimes - No
Barring Immigrants with Certain Criminal Histories - Yes
Immigration Enforcement and Employer Sanctions Amendment - Yes
Declaring English the National Language - No
Double-Layered Fencing Amendment - No
As far as being tough on immigration, he's lax at best. What he proposes with his vote is really a hodge podge with no definitive stance. For me, voting no on denying legal status to immigrants convicted of certain crimes like rape and murder is a BIG red flag.
Defense
Funding for Operations in Iraq and Afghanistan - No Vote
Didn't even care enough to show up. Lovely.
Energy
Amendment on Certain Energy-Related Programs, Including the Development of Oil Shale and Offshore Natural Gas - No
Offshore Drilling in Virginia - No Vote
Leaning on the side of not drilling in our own country for oil and has basically taken this position in his speeches. I'm all for alternative energy but we need to drill yesterday if we want to decrease our dependence on foreign oil and get a little bit of help on the relief of gas prices.
Environment
Alternative Energy Tax Incentives - No Vote
Carbon Emissions Cap and Trade Plan - No Vote
Energy Act of 2007 - No Vote
Again, doesn't even care enough to show up.
Family And Children Issues
Child Custody Protection Act - No
Appropriations for the Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies - No Vote
Same Sex Marriage Resolution - No
This is alarming. He obviously doesn't think same sex marriages are a threat to the family enough to put a Constitutional amendment in there and he doesn't want parents to be informed if their daughter is going over state lines to get an abortion. Yeah. I see a picture coming together.
Guns
Firearms Manufacturers Protection Bill - No
Firearm Confiscation Prohibition Amendment - Yes
Child Safety Lock Amendment - Yes
He feels that gun manufacturers should be responsible if someone purchase a gun and misuses it. What?
However, it's not all bad here and is really the only place where it's tolerable.
Health
Stem Cell Research Act of 2007 - Yes
Stem Cell Research Bill - Yes
Don't really think I need to say much here. He's down for stem cell research which just paints the picture clearer on where he stands on the rights of fetuses and unborn life in general.
So, just from a sampling of the key issues, I see Obama, from his voting record, is:
Now, just from this sparse picture and from listening to what he says, it's a no go for my vote. This is not even including the various other background blemishes he has. Not even thinking 2 3/4 times about it. Game over.
Scripture is clear that when we have an opportunity, we should do good to all men (Galatians 6:9-10). Voting for an individual who support issues in a way that supports biblical principles is not only a great blessing, but it's our duty.
Tomorrow...a look at Senator McCain.

So, just from a sampling of the key issues, I see Obama, from his voting record, is:
- Pro-abortion even for under age girls going over state lines.
- May lean towards supporting gay marriage.
- Is marginally tolerable on gun control.
- Might be looking for the way the wind blows politically on the environment (no pun intended).
- Doesn't want us drilling in OUR OWN COUNTRY for oil to lessen dependence abroad. Annoying.
- Isn't serious about preventing convicted criminals coming to our country illegally.
Now, just from this sparse picture and from listening to what he says, it's a no go for my vote. This is not even including the various other background blemishes he has. Not even thinking 2 3/4 times about it. Game over.

And praying for rain to ruin others day, may also be a blessing. I always say that you should be careful for what you pray for. You just might get it.
Not real sure what praying for rain and it's connection to Obama's voting is but I'm sure you do. If you could make that a little more clear, then we can really get some dialogue going.
